“Get in loser, we’re getting married!.” Not a direct quote from the movie but everyone will understand a “Mean Girls” reference when they see one. Speaking of “Mean Girls”, Jonathan Bennett had a very happy weekend as he has officially tied the knot with partner actor and TV-Host, Jaymes Vaughan.
Jonathan and James exchanged their vows and said their “I Dos” on Saturday, 19th March during their wedding ceremony at the UNICO Riviera Maya Hotel in Mexico in front of 104 guests of close family and friends.
The now married couple took to Instagram to share photos of their wedding, photographed by Todd Danforth for PEOPLE. In the photos, the guests all appear to have worn white while the happy couple wore black tuxedos from Express and then later in white tuxedos in the evening by Robert Stanley Bespoke.
The Mean Girls star, who played Lindsay Lohan’s love interest, shared that the couple chose white roses for the floral arrangements in honour of Jonathan’s late mother. He added that guests also honoured her memory by wearing only shades of white so he could feel her presence on his wedding day.
According to PEOPLE, instead of just the traditional walking down the aisle, the newlyweds chose to meet one another at the altar after walking in from the beach to a song that James wrote for Jonathan for their engagement. The wedding was officiated by Jonathan’s friend and YouTube star Brian Tyler Cohen.
“When you’re part of the LGBTQ+ fam, not everything in the wedding space is for you yet. The whole purpose of our wedding is to come together and join the two of us together, join our families together and start a new family,” James told PEOPLE.
Jonathan Bennett and Jaymes Vaughan shared the news of their engagement back in November 2020 on Instagram. James posted a set of photos of him proposing to Jonathan with a custom ring from Kay Jewelers. A month later, James shared a video on his Instagram of how the surprise proposal went down.
