It’s been a long time coming and it’ll still be a long time until the MRT 3 Circle line actually comes. After the Malaysian government announced the approval for the MRT 3 Circle (CCL) Line back in 2017, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has now finally began preparations for the project.

The former Pakatan Harapan government previously axed the Klang Valley’s MRT 3 Circle Line as they were still evaluating the project but the project is now finally back on track. If the previous administrator hadn’t shelved the MRT 3 project, it would have been completed by 2025.

Appropriately named The Circle Line, it’s basically one giant loop around the Klang Valley that will link several rail lines without entering Kuala Lumpur’s central business district. MRT 3 is 50.8km long with 40.1km of elevated track and 10.7km of underground track. There will be a total of 31 stations (excluding 2 provisional stations) including 10 interchange stations:

  1. Bukit Kiara South (Interchange with new station on Kajang Line)
  2. Bukit Kiara (Provisional)
  3. Sri Hartamas
  4. Mont Kiara
  5. Bukit Segambut
  6. Taman Sri Sinar
  7. Dutamas
  8. Jalan Kuching (Interchange with Port Klang Line)
  9. Titiwangsa (Interchange with Ampang & Sri Petaling Line, KL Monorail and Putrajaya Line)
  10. Kampung Puah
  11. Jalan Langkawi
  12. Danau Kota
  13. Setapak
  14. Rejang
  15. Setiawanga (Interchange with Kelana Line)
  16. AU2
  17. Taman Hillview

The MRT 3 project is aimed to start partial operations by 2028 and full operations by 2030. The new rail project is estimated to cost RM31 billion excluding land acquisition. The actual construction cost will only be known after the open tender exercise is completed.
