The people of Perlis have something to look forward to as Starbucks Malaysia has officially opened its first store in Perlis, completing the company’s presence in all states and federal territories in Malaysia. The new store is a drive-thru located in the state’s capital of Kangar, the largest town in Perlis that has historically been known for its paddy field landscape and rice production.
The Perlis Royal Family attended the opening event to officiate the opening of Starbucks store in Kangar Jaya, Perlis. The Starbucks Kangar Jaya Drive Thru was successfully officiated by DYTM Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, Raja Muda Perlis.

The royal family was accompanied by DYTM Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shareen Akashah Khalil, Raja Puan Muda Perlis, Her Nobleness Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tunku Shazuddin Ariff Ibni Al Aminul Karim Sultan Salehuddin, Tunku Laksamana Kedah and Dato’ Sydney Quays, Group CEO of Berjaya Food Berhad.
Also attending the opening event, their royal highness’ daughters Sharifah Khatreena Nuraniah Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra and Sharifah Farah Adriana Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra. Here we see the royal family posing together after the unveiling of the ceremonial wall plaque.

Dato’ Sydney Quays, who is also Starbucks Malaysia and Brunei managing director, gave a tour around the store for the royal family together with His Nobleness Dato’ Seri DiRaja Tunku Shazuddin Ariff Ibni Al Aminul Karim Sultan Salehuddin where they also witnessed a Coffee Story and Demonstration session by Ayesha Dahlan, Coffee Specialist of Starbucks Malaysia.
According to Dato’ Sydney Quays, the new store was supposed to open earlier but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He added that Perlis was the last state for Starbucks to open an outlet with the main reason being finding a suitable location. “We are delighted to bring the unique Starbucks experience to customers in Perlis,” he said.
If you guys didn’t know, the new store is the 62nd drive-thru store out of 345 branches in Malaysia. The store has been designed to reflect the brand’s more than 50-year coffee heritage, while embracing Malaysia’s distinctive local traditions and culture.

Customers visiting the store will be able to enjoy Starbucks signature handcrafted beverages prepared by passionate and skilled baristas, as well as locally inspired food items such as the recently launched Kuih Kerak Jagung by local celebrity chef, Dato’ Fazley.
