Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza has been drawing flak from local netizens over the supposedly “insensitive” comment she gave to Danial Chuer on live TV recently. For those in the dark, the latter is currently competing in the fourth season of the singing programme “Big Stage”, where the iconic songbird serves as the resident judge.
During the fourth week of the competition, which was broadcasted last night (Sunday, 27th February), the young singer did his own rendition of the hit song “Gila”, originally performed by the trio of Kaka Azraff, Noki and Loca B. Fair enough, his performance was met with positive feedback from the judges.

Things went sour, however, when Datuk Syafinaz Selamat began calling out Danial’s way of walking, which she pointed out that he looked somewhat similar to Bella Hadid’s catwalk. To make matters worse, Siti also appeared to echo the experienced singer’s sentiment. In this case, she advised the 20-year-old to “be more masculine” while performing on stage.

As we mentioned above, it appears that some netizens didn’t react too kindly to Siti’s remark. One commentator even put the “Cindai” singer on blast, saying, “TokTi is cancelled! She literally humiliated Danial Chuer with her ignorant and condescending comment. How can one of the most prominent public figures in Malaysia openly supports toxic masculinity? Go educate yourselves.”

Amidst the mounting backlash against TokTi, Danial later clarified that he wasn’t affected by the criticism left by the juries at all. In an interview with MyBuzz, the former “Idola Kecil” contestant revealed that this wasn’t the first time he received such a comment about him being “less masculine”.
During the interview with the YouTube channel, the Sabahan singer also explained that he was unaware of his actions while performing on stage. Danial then shared that he had taken all the comments in stride in order to further improve the quality of his performance in the coming weeks.
Do you think Siti’s comment towards Danial was offensive?
