It may be coming up in February, the season of love, but apparently something else is in the air. You’d think people would be romantic and ecstatic to celebrate their loved ones. Unfortunately, Hong Kong artist Angelababy (Angela Yeung Wing, 杨颖) says otherwise.
Today (28th January), Angelababy and her husband Huang Xiaoming (黄晓明) officially announced their divorce. This doesn’t come as a surprise to netizens, who have already foreseen the news since 2019.
Angela and Xiaoming had a grand wedding to celebrate them tying the knot in 2015. They also have one child, “Little Sponge” whom they dearly love. However, fans started seeing cracks in the relationship, and many were sure they would divorce eventually. And well, they were right.
Both Angela and Xiaoming announced their divorce on their Weibos. They posted the same message, but tagged each other. “Thank you for everything in the past, (we will) still be a family in the future!” they wrote. Their studios also released an official statement regarding the matter. “In the future, (Angela and Xiaoming) will jointly raise (their) children and accompany them in growing up,” the statement claimed.
Fans have been predicting this since Xiaoming’s ex-girlfriend, Li Fei’er (李菲儿) implied that Angela was the reason Li and Xiaoming broke up. Additionally, she claimed Angela had been the third party in their relationship. Since then, the duo had not known peace. Sightings of either one with other people would cause rumours to fly and fans to again insist they were divorcing. For instance, people once thought artist Cai Xukun (蔡徐坤) was moving in on Angela after they had a day out with a group of friends.
Although both Angela and Xiaoming have repeatedly denied the rumours of their divorce, it was apparently for naught. However, we’re sure the former couple considered their divorce seriously. We wish them well for the next chapter of their lives.
