For the past couple of years, our daily lives have been affected greatly by the pandemic. Even the holidays that are supposed to be a joyous occasion for family reunions were limited to virtual reunions.

But the good news is, as we regress back to normalcy this year, the government is planning out new SOPs for us to abide so that we can safely reunite with our families this Lunar New Year without creating new clusters.

Here are the activities allowed this Lunar New Year:

  • Family reunion dinners on the 31st January (no limit of people)
  • Prayers at temples on 1st and 2nd January
  • Hokkien Clan prayers on 8th and 9th January (temples and house compound)
  • Chap Goh Mei prayers on 15th February
  • House to house visits are allowed, but not open houses
  • Chinese New Year receptions can be held by invitation only
  • Lion, dragon, tiger dances subjected to the creative Industry’s SOPs

As for the Chinese New Year receptions and banquets, only those with invitations and are fully vaccinated are allowed to attend. Check-ins through MySejahtera and measuring temperatures are compulsory, along with existing SOPs that should always be monitored and practiced. Other than that, you should also take note that the receptions cannot be held in multiple sessions.

So, as long as we are following all the SOPs from Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan, we can have a normal yet small celebration this holiday. Remember to always keep your hygiene and practice social distancing. May we all have a safe and healthy Lunar New Year this 2022.
