Actor Shaun Tam (谭俊彦) was recently crowned “Best Actor” during the “TVB Awards Presentation 2021 (万千星颁奖典礼2021)” on 2nd January. The “Life-Changing Truth (換命真相)” actor also won the “Most Favourite TVB Actor in Malaysia”, pleasing many Malaysian fans.
However, many are certain Shaun only achieved as much, thanks to his father. After all, veteran actor Tam Fu Wing (譚富榮) or better known as Ti Lung (狄龍) had to have passed some wisdom down to his son, right? The experienced actor certainly had more to share with his son after the awards!
2nd January must have been very nerve-wrecking for the 41-year-old actor. Not only was he waiting for the award ceremony, his dad was also in attendance. Ti Lung was actually there to help host the awards. However, he was in the audience during his son’s award ceremony and watching closely. After all, Shaun had been nominated for “Best Actor” yet his competition was fierce. Others like Kevin Cheng (郑嘉颖), Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Owen Cheung (張振朗) had also been shortlisted.
During the ceremony, the host asked Shaun a question in jest. “(According to) the audience, you didn’t win the prize by strength (alone), but by what?” he said. He didn’t expect some of the audience to eagerly call out “(His) dad!” as an answer. Shaun himself went along with the host and answered, “I actually wanted to say ‘relationship’,” much to everyone’s delight.
Ti Lung didn’t comment on the joke then, but he did appear later during Shaun’s post-award interview. “I know my son doesn’t want to be seen by me because I too (am in the same line of work),” he said as a segue. He opined that Shaun had only won thanks to luck. “Today you are very lucky,” Ti Lung told him. “The skills of the people who competed with you may not have lost to you, but (only because of) luck.”
However, he urged Shaun to continue being humble and suggested the possibility of him shifting his career to behind the scenes. “However, if you become a producer and director, you could have a positive influence on society, especially on the younger generations,” Ti Lung stated, using Eric Tsang (曾志偉) as an example. Shaun could be seen listening carefully to his father’s words and taking them to heart.
In addition to winning “Best Actor”, Shaun was delighted to be crowned “Malaysia’s Favourite TVB Actor”. He thanked the Malaysian audience for their support and said, “Malaysia is my blessed land. Every time I (am in) Malaysia, they love and take (good) care of me.” He previously came to Malaysia to shoot a film.
Well, congrats to Malaysia’s favourite TVB actor! We definitely look forward to seeing more works from Shaun Tam.
