During the recent flood crisis in Selangor area, many notable names have joined forces to help those who were affected by the flood. From netizens who spread the news throughout social media to celebrities who collected funds and went straight to the scene; almost everyone ditched their heels, got in their boots and volunteered.
However, even at dire times like this, there were still some people who apparently took credit without contributing. No, not those who went to help in their maroon heels, but this time, it’s a fellow citizen. And Nabila Huda, wasn’t afraid to call her out.
Nabila Huda, or Abil, how she likes to address herself, has been actively volunteering in helping the flood victims in the previous week. However, one woman has irked her for swooping all the credits for herself. In one of her tweets that went viral, the 37-year-old Malaysian actress posted a picture of a middle-aged woman in a green hijab with the caption, “Haa, this is one of the opportunist rascals. Shamelessly took the donations from Sungai Lui Mosque, brought it to another location, and then proceeds to claim those donations are from her.”
There was also a video of the woman doing a Melodi-esque interview stating how she has been volunteering in NGOs for more than 10 years and that she was there to lend a helping hand to the victims. Nabila Huda has reposted this with a sarcastic remark, “10 years experience in stealing donations or what?” However, currently, she has taken down all her tweets and posts regarding the issue, then stated on Twitter, “Enough, ok? (I) have deleted the videos and the post, ok? I don’t think it should be on my timeline anymore. You guys know about it. So, let’s take this as a lesson.”
The woman also stated how she was framed in this issue, and Nabila Huda tweeted, “She said we were trying to frame her, but who is she to be framed? Why would the uncles and Imam tried to frame her? Who is she? Those uncles all were flood victims. For what reason would they make stories up?”
However, under the said tweet, a netizen reposted an Instagram comment of someone who claimed to be the woman’s son. The comment pleaded that the videos and posts to be taken down and for people to not expose his family’s dirt and respect his family.
“She did not steal any of the donations. (Those donations) might not be from her own pocket but she helped in collecting it. She barely slept and went out early in the morning to get donations for our village. I quit my job to help her take care of my younger siblings.”

During a crisis like this, we’re flabbergasted that there are still people out there who are taking credits for others’ efforts. Although, in this case, despite the explanations from the alleged relative of the woman, we can’t be 100% certain.
We hope citizens will be more responsible and stop being selfish during disasters like this.
