In his statement on 16th July, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Khairy Jamaluddin who is also the coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) has announced that the government was initiating “Operation Surge Capacity” that guarantees every adult residing in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor will receive their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination by 1st August.

In the same announcement made in a virtual news conference, the minister also announced that after the Operation Surge Capacity is completed, most if not all Vaccination Centres (PPVs) in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor will be available for walk-ins after 1st August.

The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) stressed on Monday (19th July) that the walk-in vaccination initiative from 1st August in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor is available only for those who dropped out or have yet to receive their vaccination appointments. CITF also clarified that those with scheduled vaccination appointments must stick to their specified dates to ensure the smoothness of the vaccination operation.

“Referring to the viral message on walk-ins in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur on 1st August 2021, the CITF would like to inform that this walk-in initiative is for those who are unaccounted for and have not received the appointment after that date, and not for people who have already been given their respective appointments,” the statement was issued as a response to a viral WhatsApp message that informed people that unvaccinated adult residents in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor could walk into any PPV on 1st August to be vaccinated. The message also listed a total of 56 available PPVs for walk-ins.

CITF further clarified that, “Individuals in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor who have been previously registered will be given an appointment soonest. Individuals who have not yet registered, but do not have any issues in doing so, are also encouraged to register for vaccination as soon as possible. The CITF would also like to inform that the PPVs which will operate for walk-in purposes in August will be updated and informed later, whereby the existing PPVs will not necessarily be open for this walk-in initiative.”
