9 Ways To Stay Connected & Entertained This Hari Raya Season

Despite celebrating a second Ramadan under strict MCO this year, the Hari Raya festivities will still go on in Malaysia – albeit socially distanced. Living in this worldwide pandemic for the past year has taught us to make necessary adjustments to our daily routines.

Need some help getting into the Raya mood? We’ve curated some activities on how you can stay connected to friends and family, while being entertained at the same time. Take a look:

1. Create and share your Hari Raya Moments

Capture the night lights and precious Hari Raya moments with the best photography apps: NightCap Camera, Slow Shutter Cam, 8mm Vintage Camera.

For all you iPhone and iPad users, Apple’s easy-to-use video creation app – Clips – offers more fun options to record captivating videos. The state-of-the-art LiDAR Scanner on select iPhone and iPad models, for example, enables the user to transform a space by inserting immersive visual effects. What’s more exciting than creating your own augmented reality (AR) experiences right?

To quote Apple, users can easily scan a room and see a live preview of effects that bring dynamic lighting, falling objects, and immersive scenes to life. Using the rear camera on a supported iPhone or iPad, users will see effects appear on walls, floors, surfaces, furniture, and objects.

2. Connect with your loved ones virtually

Besides the usual Zoom and Skype for virtual reunions with loved ones, get creative with beautiful Hari Raya greetings on apps such as Canva and PicsArt and share them with your loved ones or open a virtual karaoke room on WeSing with your loved ones and take turns to sing solo, or duet on a virtual stage.

3. Dive into virtual worlds for gaming fun

There are plenty of games with themed rewards up for grabs this Hari Raya. Team up with friends and collect ketupats in PUBG Mobile, and redeem them for some limited-time swag or party it up in the Mobile Legends’ annual 515 festivities.

4. The #KecohRayaTikTok Challenge

Get into the #KecohRayaTikTok challenge where the most creative and kecoh Raya video will stand a chance to win a iPhone 12 256GB and Raya vouchers worth RM500. Heck, we’d do it just for the fun of it. Featuring singers like Alvin Chong, Diana Danielle, Kowachee, USOP and Ara Johari, “Kecoh Raya” is not only upbeat and catchy, but the lyrics are pretty easy for listeners to remember.

5. Soak up the Raya buzz by listening to your favourite artists

If you’re on Apple Music, do remember to exclusive Raya playlists curated by artists from Malaysia and Indonesia. A new Playlist, Inspired by Faith, has also been introduced, which will comprise songs from modern singer-songwriters whose music embodies the Islamic faith. Discover these playlists under the Religi/Ketuhanan category.

6. “Ini Iklan Raya, Tau?” reminds us to appreciate the women in our lives

YouTube video

“Ini Iklan Raya, Tau?” takes a bold, comedic approach to share a meaningful message on female typecasting, empowering women to embrace their multidimensional roles and defy the stereotypes they are often associated with. Set against the backdrop of a Hari Raya advertisement shoot, the short film features actors and actresses typecast in roles typically seen in Hari Raya ads – the grandmother who waits longingly for her children and grandchildren to ‘balik kampung’ and the single daughter who is only ever asked when she is getting married. However, the women in this particular Hari Raya advertisement take a stand and are no longer “sticking to the script”. The short film challenges viewers to consider how women are quite often portrayed despite their dynamic personalities, individuality and strengths, encouraging audiences to explore how they can appreciate the women in their lives.

7. Learning new recipes
