In conjunction with JJ Lin (林俊杰)’s release of his first English-language EP, “Like You Do”, the 40-year-old artist has curated a series of exclusive Apple Music playlists entitled “24 hours with JJ Lin”.
The first playlist “Bedroom Stories” came out last Friday, which coincided with the launch of his new single with Anne-Marie, “Bedroom”. In addition to his own songs, his playlist also featured Arlo Parks, The Weeknd, LANY and more who inspire him.
Playlist #1: “Bedroom Stories”
In speaking about his playlists, the Mandopop singer explained, “Curating these playlists is like bringing someone along on a journey side by side, where you get to spend a day – 24 hours with me – through music.”
The songs on “Bedroom Stories” are a mixture of breezily romantic and sad. So how did JJ Lin imagine this journey into night? “My nights are usually dreamy, with a tad of loneliness, and I imagine many share my sentiments. It’s a time when I take time to self reflect and grow more aware of myself and my surroundings. I usually try to fall asleep telling myself to let go of worry and regret, and that ‘it’s okay’, to look forward to a better day and better me, and wake up with a rejuvenated heart and mind,” he added.
If you’ve been enjoying listening to his duet, here’s a better insight into “Bedroom”:
Playlist #2: “Coffee by the Beach”
As a wearer of many hats—musician, producer, talent show mentor, entrepreneur, e-sports team owner – the C-pop star kicks off a busy day just like anyone else. With this playlist, he invites us to sift through soulful blues, indie crooners and romantic vocals. Vibe to the breezy rhythms of Alabama Shakes, Childish Gambino and Post Malone or let your mind drift with soundscapes from Slowdive, Beach House and deca joins. Above all, feel carefree with JJ’s “Aries” and get your positivity going “I Am Alive,” his collab with Jason Mraz. These tunes evoke ocean breeze, fresh water and chilling on the beach, under the sunbeams.
Commenting on the playlist that is extremely diverse in terms of genres (dream pop, blues rock, neo-soul, hip-hop and more) and moods, JJ Lin said, “I love contrasting colours and vibes! I imagine myself sipping on a cup of warm pour over coffee, under a tree with my face against the sea breeze. Ready to run and crash into the water, to ride and surf the next wave.”
