Following the news of an employee working at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara being tested positive for Covid-19, 2 more well-known spots in Kuala Lumpur have also been affected by the virus.
Just hours ago, Sunway Medical Centre Velocity announced that 2 cases (a patient and his companion) were detected at the hospital. Meanwhile, a tenant staff working on the 7th floor in SOGO Kuala Lumpur also contracted Covid-19.
The statement from Sunway Medical Centre Velocity reads:
“At Sunway Medical Centre Velocity, transparency to our stakeholders, patients and staff has always been our code of conduct as a responsible private hospital.
The management of Sunway Medical Centre Velocity detected 2 cases (A patient and his companion) of Covid-19 at the hospital in Sunway Velocity, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. These 2 cases involved a patient and his companion who were detected positive through compulsory pre-surgery Covid-19 RT-PCR screening as part of the hospital’s pre-cautionary policy. The Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah was immediately notified. The patient and his companion were subsequently transferred to Hospital Sungai Buloh for further assessment and treatment.
The 25-year-old Malaysian male patient came to the Accident & Emergency Department on 15th October with a fractured ankle and presented himself as asymptomatic. After consultation with our doctor, the patient was advised to be admitted for surgery. Compulsory pre-surgery Covid-19 RT-PCR screening was conducted, both patient and companion’s results came out within 12 hours and was revealed to be positive on the early morning of 16th October 2020.
Patient was promptly transferred to Hospital Sungai Buloh on the same day in accordance to the Ministry of Health(MOH) SOP. During his pre-surgery admission in Sunway Medical Centre Velocity, the patient was warded in a single-bedded room and did not leave the room. Our rigorous infection control measures ensured that all precautionary efforts were taken and all attending staff were adorned with PPE.
Sunway Medical Centre Velocity would like to assure the public that the hospital has managed this case swiftly and appropriately according to guidelines from the MOH, including contact tracing. Identified doctor and staff had been tested and put on quarantine. The preliminary Covid-19 RT PCR tests on them have been negative to date and their condition will continue to be monitored. Additionally, thorough disinfection and deep cleaning of the affected areas have also been carried out without delay. As such, clinical services at Sunway Medical Centre Velocity are not affected and patients can continue with their existing care plans at the hospital.

As for SOGO KL, the All IT Hypermarket on the 7th floor has been closed until further notice. All the employees at the store have been tested and are now required to quarantine at home.
The spike in the number of cases has left malls around Klang Valley emptier than before as the public are advised to remain at home.
