A group of individuals has been reported posing as personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and stealing COVID-19 logbooks from business premises in Melaka Tengah.
State Health and Anti-Drugs Committee chairman Rahmad Mariman were made aware after several business operators lodged complaints to the state health department and police.
Based on the information received, he explained that the acts were carried out by either two or three people, showing presumably counterfeited identification cards and forms from the state health department. If the business owners are then convinced, they would take the logbook, which contains people’s name and phone numbers, before making a run.
“We are worried that if this continues, it would cause the community to lose confidence in writing down their details in the logbook before entering the premises. We are also concerned that personal data would be manipulated for criminal threats or fraud activities through phone calls,” Rahmad said in a press conference yesterday (7th September).
The Melaka Tengah District Health Office has lodged police reports based on the complains received. Business owners are reminded to not easily give access of the logbook or allow any party to take it as the State Health Department did not issue any instructions on retrieving COVID-19 screening books.
