Another day, another issue involving Malaysians breaking home quarantine rule on news headlines.
Most recently, an elderly husband-and-wife couple from Kampung Kuala Sanglang in Perlis were detained for leaving the area. They also removed their pink Covid-19 wristbands, claiming that they were allergic to the bracelet.
For those curious, the aforementioned area, in addition to Kampung Tanah Timbul located in the state have been placed under Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO) from 10th August up till 31st August. According to Kangar Police Chief, Superintendent Wari Kiew, they were detained by the police when the duo looked “panicked and suspicious”.
“During the interrogation, they admitted to removing the pink tag, on the grounds of having an allergy on their skin. They escaped via small side roads on their motorcycle to purchase their grocery items,” the police chief was quoted as saying.
Superintendent Wari Kiew added that the offence is being investigated under Section 270 of the Penal Code and Section 22 (b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
The offenders, however, were released on police bail.
