You may have come across the text message, titled “SOP For Travelling Wed 1 Aug”, on WhatsApp over the past few days. It touches on the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the implementation of compulsory face mask wearing in the country.
In order to avoid further confusion, the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (MCMC) has released an official statement, confirming that the messages (seen below) are all fake.
The ministry shut down the false claims by stating, “The National Security Council denies issuing the circular “SOP For Travelling Wed 1 Aug” along with the MCO Query Phone +60388882010 claiming to ease the flow of information to the public concerning face mask SOPs when in a private vehicle or public transport.”
In its statement, they also urged everyone to stop spreading fake news and only trust messages sent by the authorities. Having said that, the police have advised diners in restaurants to keep their face masks on until their food arrives in order “to protect themselves from being infected by Covid-19.”
For those who don’t know, there are new SOPs taking effect starting this month; it is now compulsory for everyone to wear a face mask when out in public as well as when commuting using public transportation.
Hopefully the public will adhere to the rules in an effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 disease. Stay safe, guys!
