A word of caution people: McDonald’s Malaysia isn’t giving out free gift vouchers.

Earlier today (Friday, 3rd July), the fast food chain posted a public service announcement, warning netizens about a sponsored post claiming to be McDonald’s Malaysia.

McDonald’s Malaysia

The McDonald’s MY post, titled “McDonald’s Vouchers – Limit 1 Per House Hold”, claimed tat the company was giving out free vouchers in conjunction with its anniversary. A link was also provided for netizens to click into.

The official statement from McDonald’s reads:

We have been informed of a purported promotional post by McDonald’s that claims to give out free McDonald’s Gift Vouchers in conjunction with McDonald’s Malaysia’s 38th anniversary. We wish to clarify that this post is a scam and is not authorised by McDonald’s in any way. Customers are advised not to respond to the promotion or survey.”

This sort of scam seems to be a common occurrence as a similar incident happened on 11th January (claiming to give out RM1000 worth of food and drinks vouchers). Similar scams occurred again in March and May.
