In a shocking revelation, it’s been confirmed that Kelly Clarkson and husband Brandon Blackstock have filed for divorce on 4th June after 7 years of marriage.
The duo cited “irreconcilable differences” in their Los Angeles court papers. While fans are reeling from their split, many are curious about what caused it.
It was a general assumption that Kelly and Brandon’s marriage would go the distance as they appeared like one big, happy family. So what went wrong? Was there a cheating scandal? When a celebrity couple part ways, infidelity is usually suspected.
Perhaps it was her busy schedule? The “American idol” champ has always been overloaded with several projects simultaneously. Case in point was her being a coach on “The Voice” and a talk show host for “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, while juggling her singing career.
Having said that, did the couple realise their marriage was truly over while being quarantined 24/7 in their home amid the Covid-19 pandemic? “Kelly and Brandon work together nonstop, and that became a contention in their relationship. Brandon is the EP of her show as well as her manager. Also, Kelly has always brought up wanting more children, which Brandon doesn’t,” an insider said.
Many of the staff under the pop star were apparently “in the dark” about her divorce. “Everyone loves Brandon,” the source added. “He’s an integral part of the show. Everything is run by him and he’s a hands-on decision maker, not just Kelly’s husband-manager.”
In case you didn’t know, the 38-year-old Grammy winner and the 43-year-old music manager have 2 children together, River Rose and Remington Alexander. Brandon has 2 other children (13-year-old son Seth and 17-year-old daughter Savannah) with his former wife Melissa Ashworth.
Kelly, who is reportedly worth US$45million, wants her prenup to be enforced and is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their two kids. This means that both parties will pay for their own attorney’s fees. The singer is also asking for her last name to be restored to Clarkson, after taking on Blackstock. Meanwhile, property and asset division will be determined at a later date.
There’s no question that the former flames want to do what’s best for their family and not turn the divorce into an ugly battle.
