Good news nerds and book lovers! Eslite Bookstore is expected to open its first Malaysian outlet in Kuala Lumpur.
For the uninitiated, Eslite is one of the biggest bookstore chain in Taiwan (with a total of 48 outlets in the country alone). The Kuala Lumpur launch will likely be the first Eslite outlet in Southeast Asia.
Eslite opened its very first bookstore in 1989 by Robert Wu Ching-Yu and initially sold books on art and humanity before expanding to more genres. A decade later, the company started operating 24 hours a day – making it one of the few bookstore chains in the world to open around the clock.
Besides Taiwan, Eslite is currently available in China’s Suzhou, Shenzhen, Japan and Hong Kong. While the exact location in Malaysia hasn’t been revealed yet, reports say that it’ll debut in KL City Centre and is estimated to be 3300-6600 square meters. The launch date was supposed to be in 2021 but the Covid-19 situation might delay things a bit.
With so many new malls popping up left and right in Klang Valley in recent years, having a new 24-hour bookstore is certainly exciting.
