Late last night (Thursday, 14th May), the Jalan Pudu area in Kuala Lumpur was placed under semi-enhanced movement control order (SEMCO).
A resident who lives in the vicinity told FMT that army trucks arrived around 11pm where security forces comprising the army and police sealed off the area with barbed wires.
There are a lot of refugees and undocumented migrants living in Pudu. The purpose of SEMCO is to allow authorities sufficient time to conduct Covid-19 tests on residents and foreign workers.
Besides Jalan Pudu, other affected roads include:
- Jalan Kancil
- Jalan Pasar
- Jalan Landak
- Lorong Brunei 2
- Lorong Brunei 3
As reported by the Ministry of Health (MoH), Pudu is currently among the list of active clusters in Malaysia. 18 new cases from the area alone was reported yesterday. Selayang and Chow Kit were also placed under similar restrictions earlier this month.
