Some say that Nicolas Cage was born to play this role – the eccentric zookeeper Joe Exotic.
Well known among binge-watchers on Netflix, the upcoming scripted miniseries by Imagine Television and CBS Television Studios will be based on Texas Monthly’s “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad.

This will mark Nicolas’ first television role. Similar to the Netflix docuseries, the new “Tiger King” series will shine the spotlight on how Joe Schreibvogel ultimately became Joe Exotic, the owner of the Oklahoma-based Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park. The difference is that this will be an 8-episode scripted show, and not a documentary.
When “Tiger King” debuted on Netflix in March, it exploded and became a pop culture phenomenon. The popularity of the show has also resulted in 2 other related series – one where Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon will be playing Carole Baskin, while another docuseries will focus on Carole’s missing husband Don Lewis.

Nicolas himself will be one of the executive producers of the currently untitled series, alongside Dan Lagana (who’s also the showrunner and writer), Paul Young, Brian Grazer, Samie Kim Falvey, Scott Brown, and Megan Creydt.
