Meet your new Fairy Godmother, Billy Porter, as he has confirmed he will be taking over the role in an interview he did in New Yorker Festival.
The Hollywood Reporter reported last week that the Emmy-winning “Pose” actor was in talks with Sony over the “Cinderella” role. Then on, Saturday of the same week Porter confirmed, “I have a couple movies that I’m working on. I’m gonna be playing the fairy godmother in the new Cinderella movie with Camila Cabello”.
Camila Cabello is set to take on the iconic role, while the evil stepmother will be played by “Frozen” star Idina Menzel. The rest of the cast for the upcoming movie have yet to be announced as the entire movie is still in pre-production.
Billy, 50, started as a Broadway star and is best known for his role of Lola in the Broadway musical “Kinky Boots”, which got him a Drama Desk and Tony award for best actor.
He would later star in more television and movies with his most recent role of Pray Tell in FX’s series “Pose” that gotten him an Emmy-Award. This made him the first black gay person to do so.
The new “Cinderella” live-action remake, is slated to be release on 21st February 2021. It will be directed and written by the multi-talented Kay Cannon, best known for writing and producing the “Pith Perfect” trilogy, with British television host James Corden.
