Just 2 days before Malaysia Day, Namewee (黃明志) uploaded a video on YouTube.
During the 6 minutes 30 seconds clip, the 36-year-old rapper shined the spotlight on a particular Dato. He didn’t reveal the identity of said person but he did share that it was a Chinese Dato.

Before that though, the controversial artist shed light on his travel predicaments since last year. He recalls that his passport was blacklisted in February 2018. “Every time I walk through customs I will be detained by customs officer (when travelling abroad),” the entertainer said. To date, he has been detained approximately 70-80 times in less than 2 years.
It’s quite tedious when one has to answer the same questions over and over again. On top of that, it’s time consuming. Upon meeting a Chinese Dato, who apparently has close connections with PM Mahathir, Namewee was promised that his ongoing issue would be resolved.
Fast forward 3 months later, that same Dato called. However, it was to ask a favour for Namewee to perform at the grand opening of the Dato’s shop. But when the matter of costing was brought up, the Dato scolded Namewee’s manager.
Namewee went on to indirectly explain that while he doesn’t mind performing for free, transportation and employees do need to be paid.
The rapper ended his clip with a plea in hopes that he’ll get to meet Tun Dr Mahathir or someone in power to look into his passport case. It’s not too much to ask right?
