Earlier this week (Monday, 22nd July), Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad unveiled the official campaign logo for Visit Malaysia 2020.

Many agreed that Alfred Phua Hong Fook’s design was a vast improvement from last year’s disastrous first design. The Melaka-born graphic designer beat more than 500 other entries to emerge victorious.

Have you seen the new Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign logo? It features the hornbill, wild fern, & our Malaysian flag colours. Beautiful done by 23-year-old graphic designer Alfred Phua, from Melaka.

However, it was this year’s slogan, which reads: “Visit Truly Asia Malaysia 2020”, that drew criticism from netizens. It seems to be a combination of “Visit Malaysia 2020” and “Malaysia, Truly Asia”. Many felt that this was unnecessary and the board should have just stuck with the original tagline.

Despite the drawback from Malaysians, tourism minister Mohamaddin Ketapi has maintained that there is nothing grammatically incorrect about the new slogan and that it is here to stay.

Criticism aside, are you curious to check out what other designs were shortlisted? Thanks to Vocket (via Twitter account @luqmanhkm93), here 9 other designs that had potential:

Out of all the designs, do you like any of those who were shortlisted?
