Since last year, it has been rumoured that Disney is eyeing actress-singer Zendaya to play the titular character Ariel in the live-action version of “The Little Mermaid”.

Though nothing is officially confirmed, now a new rumour has circulated on the casting of Prince Eric and it has been reported that former One Direction member Harry Styles is one of the stars being considered for the role.

Over the weekend, Prince Eric was actually trending on Twitter. This is because a Twitter user called @theredneighbour has revealed that Disney will be announcing the live-action cast of “The Little Mermaid” at D23 expo on 23rd August 2019.

According to the tweet, 2 actresses and 2 actors have been considered for the role of Ariel and Prince Eric respectively, with Rob Marshall as the movie’s director.

“Spiderman: Far From Home” actress Zendaya and scream queen star Jane Levy are being considered to play Ariel while former boy band member Harry Styles and Noah Centineo from Netflix romantic comedy “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser” are the contenders for Prince Eric.

A small correction: The direction of The Little Mermaid will be by Rob Marshall.

But before you get excited about the news, do remember that Disney still hasn’t confirmed any of these rumours, so it is better that we take it with a grain of salt.

Despite so, many fans are totally into the idea of casting Harry Styles as Prince Eric, because seriously, not only is he good looking and good at singing, his acting performance in “Dunkirk” has been widely praised by critics – plus, he’s British! (a very princely characteristic if you ask us.)

After seeing the announcement about the potential cast for Prince Eric, fans have also started to throw out other actors or singers which they think would suited for the role as well. Some of the notable mentions include Park Jimin of BTS, Shawn Mendes, Darren Criss, Hendery, and more.

Anyway, since nothing is officially on the table yet, let’s just wait for the real announcement at D23 expo.
