A lot of netizens aren’t happy with Jackie Chan (成龍) at the moment.
This is probably the reason why Jay Chou (周杰倫) and Yoshiki (林 佳樹) found themselves in hot water for associating with the legendary actor.
Last week, Jay took to his Instagram to post a photo of him and Jackie together, wishing him well on his latest album, titled “I Am Me” (我還是成龍). Asia One reported that the Mando-pop singer gave some input for Jackie’s record.
On that same day, Yoshiki also posted a candid photo of his “wonderful dinner” session with the icon. However, the comments section for both stars drew a ton of negative feedback. Many were not pleased at their socialising with Jackie.
The drummer from Japanese visual kei band X Japan later issued an apology, saying, “My dear fans, if any of my posts made you feel like… I’m not considering any situation, I deeply apologise. I really care about all my fans and friends.”
So why the hate on Jackie?
The 65-year-old KungFu star, who is pro-Beijing, was recently asked about Hong Kong’s now-temporarily suspended extradition bill. His pleaded ignorance was, “I only found out yesterday there was a big march in Hong Kong. I don’t know anything about it.”
This only enraged Hong Kong citizens even more considering Jackie himself was born and raised in Hong Kong. The actor has been slammed for his political views in the past. In 2009, he made a controversial remark by suggesting that democracy is dangerous.
“With too much freedom, we become like Hong Kong and Taiwan, such huge messes. I’m beginning to think that Chinese people need to be controlled,” Jackie previously commented on Beijing’s interference in Hong Kong’s political affairs.
Furthermore, Jackie hasn’t entirely been forgiven for cheating Lin Feng-jiao with Hong Kong beauty queen Elaine Ng in 1999. He has also never acknowledge Etta Ng as his daughter.
