22-year-old Shwetajeet Kaur better known as Shweta Sekhon is crowned Miss Universe Malaysia of 2019, succeeding after Miss Universe Malaysia 2018 Jane Teoh who presented the crown and sash to her last night (7th March) at The Majestic Hotel.
The 1st runner-up title went to 25 year-old Frost Yaw Hui Jing, the 2nd runner-up is 23 year-old Tessminderjit Kaur while the 3rd runner-up is 25 year-old Lee Su Hsien.
As the new Miss Universe Malaysia, Shweta plan to champion the topic self-confidence during her reign and to highlight women empowerment.
“There’s a lot of women out there who aren’t very confident about themselves. So I want to be an icon to tell them to just embrace yourself. Be confident of who your are,”she said during the press conference.
Shweta who was initially the 1st runner-up of Miss World Malaysia 2016, becomes the titleholder for the pageant when Tatiana Kumar was stripped off her title for unbecoming conduct.
Though she only took over the reign after Tatiana represented Malaysia at the global stage, the Miss Universe 2019 titleholder is grateful that she is now given a second chance.
“Miss World is a whole different experience compared to Miss Universe. I feel so proud that I’m given another chance. But it’s different this time because I get to carry our country’s name to the international stage, so I feel so blessed and I can’t wait to carry our flag all the way,” she said.
“I think Shweta is very equipped. She has the the whole package. That’s why she was the judges pick. No one’s perfect, neither is she. She has a lot to learn, a lot to improve on and I assure you that by the time she goes off to the international pageant, you will be immensely proud of her,” National Director of MUMO, Datin Elaine Daly added.
As Miss Universe Malaysia 2019, Shweta will be representing Malaysia at the 68th Miss Universe Pageant and she also received a cash prize and sponsored prizes with a combined value of RM180,000 and a full education scholarship from HELP University.
