The Asean International Films Festival and Awards (AIFFA) is back. The premier film festival is set to make its comeback on the 25th- 27th April in Pullman Hotel, Kuching.
The upcoming three-day event that is organized by World Communication Network Resources Sdn (Bhd), will consists of activities like film screenings, a movie marathon, and a concert.
The event will culminate to its final activity, Gala Nite finale where the best ASEAN films are recognized. The following feature films are assessed by an ASEAN Jury and 12 categories of awards are up for win.
Since its debut in 2013, AIFFA has been celebrating feature films made by filmmakers within the ASEAN region. The film event is held every two years and has received the blessings of the secretariat of ASEAN, claiming this as one of ASEAN joint activities.
120 features films have been submitted for the upcoming event. In the past, countries like the Philippines and Indonesia has been taking the lead in the nominations. In fact, Indonesia submitted 10 feature films in 2017 and managed to bring home the Best Screenplay for their film ‘Ziarah’ (a work of the BW Purba Negara director) and Special Jury Award for the performance of its lead actress, Mbah Ponco Sutiyem (aged 95).
AIFFA’s director Livan Tajang disclose his wishes for the event, hoping that it will not only continue to celebrate films made by ASEAN filmmakers, but also encourage further collaboration within ASEAN filmmakers for future films.
