There is a new lead actor in Disney’s upcoming “High School Musical: The Musical” series and his name is Joshua Bassett.
The 17 year-old relative newcomer is set to portray the lead role of Ricky. The character is describe as a “cynical but charming” high school junior. In order to woo back his former beau Nini, he auditions in the school’s production of “High School Musical”.
“As someone whose childhood was shaped by the cultural phenomenon that is ‘High School Musical’, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to tell this story. Go Wildcats!” Bassett was quoted as saying. The original 2016 “High School Musical” movie featured Zac Efron as Troy Bolton, a basketball star who secretly yearned to perform in his school’s spring musical.

The audience is going to love watching this charismatic young actor put his stamp on this next chapter of the ‘High School Musical’ franchise,” shared Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide.
Set to debut in late 2019, the 10-episode series will feature new renditions of “High School Musical” songs as well as an original number.
