This is shocking! It’s just been confirmed that Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been diagnosed with early-stage nose cancer.
The announcement was made by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). This comes after rumours surfaced that the national badminton champion had been stricken with “a career-ending illness” back in July.
BAM president Norza Zakaria released a statement today (Saturday, 22nd September), stating that the former World Number 1 is currently seeking treatment in Taiwan. “In response to recent reports concerning Datuk Lee Chong Wei, BAM confirms that the player has been diagnosed with early-stage nose cancer,” said Norza.
He added, “He is resting and recuperating amongst family and close friends. On behalf of Chong Wei, I would like to thank all Malaysians for your prayers and concern. Your support has been his source of strength and courage“. Norza also urged the public the privacy of Datuk Lee Chong Wei and his family during this challenging time.
He is expected to return home by the end of the month.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Datuk Lee. Stay strong and keep persevering!
