[Update 14th August] Amendments have been made to clarify that the recall of Ribena was a voluntary withdrawal and not consumer product withdrawal.
Ribena consumers in Malaysia, do take note.
Japanese beverage company Suntory has issued a recall of its Ribena cordial drinks via the trade voluntary withdrawal letter dated 11th August 2017 (Friday). As per the company, the voluntary withdrawal at the trade level was carried out after an error was discovered.
The statement by Lee Hon Tong, Suntory’s regional general manager for Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore, reads: “We wish to announce that during a routine quality check in our factory, we found 1 error in our manufacturing process“. He added that all Ribena cordial drinks that has an expiration date from 12th August 2017 will be withdrawn.
(Note: No further details regarding the “error” was disclosed.)
The batches of Ribena brands together with their respective expiry dates are as follows:
- Ribena Cordial Blackurrant (May until August 2018)
- Ribena Cordial Blackurrant and Glucose (May until August 2018)
- Ribena Cordial Blackurrant and Strawberry (February until March 2018)
- Ribena Cordial Blackurrant and Blueberry (February until March 2018)
- Ribena Cordial Blackurrant and Apple (April until May 2018)
As such, the factory in Shah Alam will cease all deliveries for Ribena cordial drinks to its trading partners for the time being. This is to ensure that the products are properly monitored and checked before releasing it to the public for consumption.
