Ever since Marvel Comic’s “Secret Empire” revealed that Captain America aka Steve Rogers was revealed to be Hydra’s secret agent, heavy criticism has been directed towards writer Nick Spencer.
The controversy continues to escalates with “Secret Empire #7” when Captain America kills yet another beloved Avenger. A word of caution to comic book enthusiasts: The following article contains spoilers, so you might want to avoid reading ahead if you’re still not up to date.
For readers not familiar with the comic book series, Steve Rogers was promoted as the Supreme Leader of Hydra in “Civil War II: The Oath”. In addition to him taking over America, the arc for “Civil War II” also resulted in the unfortunate death of the Incredible Hulk. However, Marvel Comics’ latest move may just push fans over the edge.
In “Secret Empire #7”, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow assembles a small team of superheroes – including Miles Morales (the new Spider-Man) and Ms. Marvel – with the intention to assassinate Captain America. When Black Widow attempts to execute the deed herself, Hydra Cap snaps her neck with his shield. She is then killed instantly.
However, fans can be rest assured that that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is very much alive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She will be making her next appearance in the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War“.
