“New York has lost its soul.”
Helmed by “500 Days of Summer” director Marc Webb from a script by Allan Loeb, “The Only Living Boy In New York” is a coming-of-age drama film that stars A-listers Jeff Bridges, Pierce Brosnan, Cynthia Nixon, and Kate Beckinsale.
The official plot is as follows:
“Thomas Webb (played by Callum Turner), the son of a publisher and his artistic wife, has just graduated from college and is trying to find his place in the world. Moving from his parents’ Upper West Side apartment to the Lower East Side, he befriends his neighbour W.F. (played by Jeff Bridges), a shambling alcoholic writer who dispenses worldly wisdom alongside healthy shots of whiskey. Thomas’ world begins to shift when he discovers that his long-married father (played by Pierce Brosnan) is having an affair with a seductive younger woman (played by Kate Beckinsale).
“Determined to break up the relationship, Thomas ends up sleeping with his father’s mistress, launching a chain of events that will change everything he thinks he knows about himself and his family.”
According to Collider, the upcoming film has been in development for a while with Logan Lerman (of “Perks Of Being A Wallflower” fame) and Miles Teller (of “Whiplash” fame) competing for the lead role. However, the role eventually went to British actor Callum Turner.
The trailer starts off with a heartwarming family meal where Thomas talks about New York. Then, he is seen walking to his apartment alone. He meets his new neighbour who gives him nuggets of advice. We later find out that he is “crazy” about a girl (played by Kiersey Clemons) who just wants to be friend. In another scene, he sees his father getting intimate with a woman who is not his mother.
Produced by Amazon Studios, “The Only Living Boy In New York” is slated for release on 11th August 2017.
