Popular Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi (章子怡) will be starring in “Godzilla: King of the Monster” alongside Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown (of “Stranger Things” fame), Bradley Whitford, and Ken Watanabe.
While Legendary and Warner Bros. have kept her character under wraps, it was reported that she will be playing a major role in their monster movie franchise.
38-year-old Zhang is best known for her role in “Memoirs of a Geisha”, which earned her nominations at the Golden Globe award, BAFTA award, and Screen Actors Guild. She has also starred in “House of Flying Daggers”, “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, “Rush Hour 2”, “Sophie’s Revenge”, and “My Lucky Star”.
“Godzilla: King of the Monster” will be directed by Michael Dougherty and is set several years after the events of the 2014 reboot. The previous Godzilla film grossed USD529 million at the global box office and it starred Aaron Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston.
In other news, the studios recently hired Adam Wingard to direct the long-anticipated “Godzilla Vs. Kong”, joining the “monsterverse” that includes “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island”.
“Godzilla: King of the Monster” is slated for release on 22nd March 2019.
