The “X-Men” franchise is shaping up to be something spectacular both on the big screen and small screen.
With shootings for “The New Mutants” expected to start next month, the main cast has finally been announced. In case you didn’t know, the new spinoff will shine the spotlight on a younger generation of mutant heroes.
As aforementioned, the Josh Boone-directed film will feature a number of lesser-known “New Mutants” characters including Magik, Wolfsbane, Dani Moonstar, Cannonball, Sunspot and Warlock. Rosario Dawson is in talks to play Dr. Celia Reyes, a mentor to these young heroes.
The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that “The Originals” actress Blu Hunt has been chosen to take on the role of Dani Moonstar. Meanwhile, “13 Reasons Why” actor Henry Zaga will be portraying Sunspot. Only the casting for Warlock remains to be announced.
Here are the characters confirmed for 20th Century Fox’s “The New Mutants” so far:
1. Roberto da Casta aka Sunspot (played by Henry Zaga)
Sunspot is a Brazilian self-styled ladies man. He has the ability to absorb and channel solar power.
2. Dani Moonstar aka Mirage (played by Blu Hunt)
She’s a Native American who can create illusions drawn from fears and desires of the human mind.
3. Illyana Rasputin aka Magik (played by Anya Taylor-Joy)
As the younger sister of Colossus, she has learned the ways of sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel.
4. Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane (played by Maisie Williams)
This Scottish mutant can turn into a werewolf, although her powers clashes with her religious beliefs.
5. Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball (played by Charlie Heaton)
Hails from Kentucky, Cannonball is able to propel himself through the air, which makes him invincible to any attack.
