Popular South Korean actor Kim Woo Bin (김우빈) has been diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer, which is a rare type of head and neck cancer.
In a statement released on Wednesday (24th May), SidusHQ (Kim’s label), said:
“Kim Woo Bin recently noticed something abnormal about his body while he was in the midst of multiple schedules. When he went to the hospital to see what it was, he received a diagnosis for nasopharyngeal cancer.
Thankfully, they said it’s not too late to receive treatment, so he has started radiation therapy and is taking medication. He will be focusing on treatment so that he can return with a healthier image. We are currently discussing his schedule due to his treatment. We ask for your support and encouragement.”
27-year-old Kim Woo Bin (real name Kim Hyun Joong) made his acting debut in the television drama in KBS2’s drama special titled “White Christmas” (2011). However, he big breakthrough came in 2013 when he starred in “School 2013” alongside Lee Jong Suk. The role earned him the “Best New Actor” award at the 2nd APAN Star Awards.
Since then, he has starred several hit dramas and movies including “The Heirs” (2013), “Uncontrollably Fond” (2016), and “Master” (2016). Moreover, he is currently dating actress Shin Min Ah.
UPDATE (28th July, 5:45pm):
SidusHQ has updated fans on Kim Woo Bin’s health condition.
According to the company, the actor has successfully completed his first round of chemotherapy. “He’s recovered enough to be able to exercise. Once we see the results (of the first round of chemotherapy) in mid August, we should be able to relay more about future plans and whether there will be a second round of treatment,” said a source from the company.
Besides that, Kim hasn’t lost any hair or experienced many drastic changes in physical appearance. The source added, “The only thing is, he has lost roughly 10kg. He is currently maintaining a body weight in the low 60-kilogram range.”
