YouTube has a new interface!
The video-sharing site has officially pushed out their Material Design interface on desktop to users around the world.
The Material Design was initially discovered around a year ago, but according to Lowyat.NET, those who wanted to try it out had to “go to a special URL and tweak some codes under developer tools”.
YouTube describes the 3 integral principles of this design as “simplicity”, “consistency”, and “beauty”. Aside from beautifying their interface, the video sharing site wants you to be able to navigate around content you love easily across all Google platforms.
However, there’s a catch. If you want to opt for the new interface, you’ll have to do it manually from YouTube.com/new. Once you switch, it’ll unlock the Dark Theme, which will turn your background black and is designed to cut down on glare.
Not sure whether to switch to the new interface or not? Fret not, if you don’t like it, you can return to the current design by selecting “Restore classic YouTube” from the drop-down menu. You can also send feedback to Google via the “Send feedback” button.
