Looks like Mariah Carey is single – again!
The 47-year-old Grammy-winning artiste and her 33-year-old backup dancer boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka, have called it quits after 5 months of dating.
“The split happened very recently. Mariah ended it — everyone hoped that she would. She has better things to focus on. Mariah is happy. She is focusing on her kids and new music,” a source told PEOPLE.
The source also added, “Bryan was a good distraction after she split from James (Packer). This is a good time for her to be single and focus on herself.”
According to TMZ, Carey broke up with the Japanese-American due to his spending habits and jealousy over her relationship with ex-husband Nick Cannon. The former couple, who split in 2014 and divorced in November, remain close as co-parents of their twin boys – Monroe and Moroccan.

Carey and Tanaka began working together in 2006 when he appeared as a member of her “Adventures of Mimi” tour. Dating rumours began last year after the singer split with her ex-fiancé, Australian businessman James Packer.
In February, she confirmed their relationship to the Associated Press. “I’m just going to be like, ‘I really don’t talk about my personal life.’ Because that’s what I used to do and it really worked for a minute, back, a while ago. I just don’t feel comfortable talking about my personal life (…) Me and my boyfriend (Bryan Tanaka) don’t want to do that,” she said.
In other news, Carey recently linked up with Epic Records to form her own label – Butterfly MC. She will also be dropping a new album later this year. “I am putting my heart and soul into making more new music. I am so thrilled for this next chapter and to continue working with, and for, everyone that I love,” she said.
