Thinking of upgrading your Spotify account to premium?
If you’re still on the fence, the music streaming app may have something enticing for all you music lovers. Starting today (Wednesday, 5th April), premium users will have exclusive access to new albums 2 week before everyone else.
In collaboration with Universal Music Group (UMG), artists under the music label have the option of making their new full-length albums available to Spotify premium users. However, UMG singers such as Beck, Lorde, Katy Perry, and Kanye West, can always choose to opt out of this option. Singles will still be available across all tiers.
“We know that not every album by every artist should be released the same way, and we’ve worked hard with UMG to develop a new, flexible release policy,” Spotify CEO Daniel Ek was quoted as saying.
Thanks to this agreement with UMG, hopefully Spotify will be able to work out a similar collaboration with major labels Warner Music Group and Sony Music Group.
