Oh bummer, looks like we’ve got more bad news to share 🙁
Just as news reports are predicting that petrol and diesel prices will continue to increase for the next 2 to 3 months, we just noticed that Daiso Japan in Malaysia has issued a statement, announcing that each normal item will be increased from RM 5.30 to RM 5.90.
The statement reads:
“Dear Valued Customers,
Thank you for shopping with Daiso.
Please be advised that effective 1st March 2017, our new retail price will be RM 5.90 per piece (inclusive of GST).”
While many netizens are visibly upset over this news, others have come to Daiso’s defence. “I think Japan Daiso is still remaining at 100yen/item but due to the weakness of Ringgit currency, they’ve no choice but to raise the price,” reasoned Facebook user Chian Ken.
His sentiments were echoed by Koh Chuan Wei who explained, “Yen appreciates 5%, RM depreciates 21%. From RM5 to RM5.90 – inflation at 18%.”
Do you think the 60 sen increase is reasonable? Will you still shop at Daiso Japan after their price hike? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
