Who’s ready for Ed Sheeran’s comeback?
Turns out, the light blue image that was uploaded on the singer-songwriter’s social media accounts last month was, indeed, a clue: the British musician has confirmed that new music is on the way.
Yesterday (Monday, 2nd January), Sheeran posted a short clip of himself dressed in a simple long sleeve sweater and glasses, while holding a sign that reads, ““New music coming Friday!!” That means fans can probably expect his new single to drop later this week; Friday, 6th January at 5am GMT to be exact.
Fans also took notice of another short clip of flashing graphics, leading them to believe that his upcoming album will be titled “÷ (Divide)”. Sheeran’s debut album “+ (Plus)” had the colour orange and his sophomore album “x (Multiply)” yielded the colour green. It wouldn’t surprise us if the light blue colour is meant for “÷ (Divide)”.

Sheeran has also released his albums approximately 3 years apart. “+” was in 2011, “x” was in 2014, and now his 3rd album this year. His titles all have a running theme: math.
When asked whether he’ll be considering “- (Subtract)” or “÷ (Divide)” for future album titles during last year’s interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sheeran replied, “They’re the 2 choices. But I don’t know what direction the album’s gonna go in yet. Every title has its own theme. ‘x’ was called ‘multiply’ because it made everything that was on ‘+’ bigger. From the venues to the songs to the radio plays to the sales.”
A new website was also apparently launched by Sheeran to commemorate the date. We can’t wait to hear some new tunes!
