It’s inevitable that YG Entertainment’s rookie girl group, BLACKPINK, will be compared to their sunbae (senior) group 2NE1.
BLACKPINK, who recently came back with their 2nd single album “SQUARE TWO”, has addressed issues regarding their label mates in a recent interview with a South Korean media outlet.
In the interview, the girl group explained that they do not intentionally try to be different from 2NE1, as they believe that they are representing the distinct sound of YG. They said, “It’s actually a big part of us that we’re compared to 2NE1. We don’t want to show a different color than them because we believe they portrayed the color of YG. We also want to show YG’s color in our own, unique way.”
The continued, “We think it’s good for us to follow them as much as we can. When you see their performance, 2NE1 are sunbae with overflowing charisma. We want to be shown like that on stage too.”
As they’ve just debuted in August, the girls also admitted that they’re hoping to at least win one rookie award at the year-end awards. “It’ll be a lie if we say we’re not looking forward to receiving the rookie award. We think it’ll be amazing if we really get it. If given the rookie award, we’ll be happy since we have waited for it so long.”
