Paws up, Little Monsters. Mother Monster is back with a brand new single and she’s ready to rock!
It’s the moment fans all over the world have been waiting for – the official debut of “Perfect Illusion”. If the new track is any indication, Lady Gaga’s upcoming 5th studio album will be a collection of rock-tinged bangers and dance floor hits.
The 30-year-old pop star unveiled the cover art for “Perfect Illusion” on Wednesday (7th September). In the picture, Gaga can be seen wearing a pair of chunky combat boots and frayed denim shorts as she rocks out with a mic in hand while jumping mid-air. The sun set behind her also provides a nice touch to the overall look.
Likewise, “Perfect Illusion” is as how producer BloodPop describes it – “a big rock song that makes you want to dance”. When Gaga addresses the pitfalls of mistaking the thrill of an infatuation for something deeper with lyrics like “I don’t need eyes to see, I felt you touchin’ me. High like amphetamine. Maybe you’re just a dream” before the chorus line, “It wasn’t love, it was a perfect illusion“, we can’t help but wonder if she’s singing about her split from Taylor Kinney.
“The song is about modern ecstasy… We found our sweet, simple, rage-y way of saying it,” Gaga previously said of the song. “I get this sick adrenaline rush every time I hear it.” This pretty much affirmed what Mark Ronson hinted when he said the singer was taking a more “analog” approach on her new album.
“She’s never played guitar in public before…but guitar is something she’s learning for this record. That side of her, I don’t think a lot of the world has seen. It’s really great to make this very honest, authentic, kind of analog record with her,” Ronson told Charlie Rose in an interview.
