The Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) will be held in Hong Kong once again.
It will be the 5th time the country will host the awards show, and it will be held at the same venue as last year’s, the AsiaWorld-Arena. This year’s event will fall on 2nd December (Friday), an industry insider revealed.

The source said:
“After confirming the location and date, Mnet has commenced preparations. This year, too, we will strive to put on a magnificent music festival.”
However, as the production is still in its initial stages, no line-ups have been revealed as of yet.

The first edition of the awards show started in South Korea in 1999, and was simply named Mnet Video Music Awards. However, following the expansion of the music industry and in a bid to globalise the awards show, the organisers decided to rename and hold it in other Asian countries.

The only and last time MAMA was held in the Southeast Asian region was in 2011, when Singapore hosted the awards show. Lee Byung Hun took lead of the show, which took place in Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Many Malaysians are hoping that the show would be held in Malaysia at least once, but with several controversies surrounding foreign singers who hold their concerts in the country, it remains to be seen if Malaysia will be chosen.
