The LGBT community is not pleased with Tyler Posey.
The “Teen Wolf” heartthrob recently posted a video clip on his Snapchat account, jokingly announcing to his fans that he was gay. Needless to say, people didn’t find it amusing and the backlash was swift. Posey quickly backtracked the next day and issued an apology.
The 24-year-old actor took to social media to address the insensitive incident in a series of tweets. “I am a big proponent of love over hate, and standing together during divisive times. Although I’m not gay, I fully support the LGBTQ community. This was a moment intended to reflect that .And everyone, I am truly sorry to the people I’ve offended or lessened how big coming out is. I just want to spread love in this world,” he wrote.
While hanging with his friends in New York City last Friday (29th July), Posey gleefully declared, “This is me, I am this and this is me, I’ve never felt more alive. I’m gay!“, while standing on the street corner of Manhattan’s Gay and Christopher Streets. Fans and “Teen Wolf” viewers applauded the actor for coming out, only to realise that it wasn’t the case.
Earlier this year, 2 of Posey’s costars, Colton Haynes and Charlie Carver – also “Teen Wolf” alums -, made headlines after they publicly came out. Will queer folks still continue to tune in to “Teen Wolf” after this stunt? We shall see…
“Teen Wolf” will be ending its show series with season 6 when it returns to MTV this coming November. You can check out the official trailer here.
