Parents, alert!
IKEA will be recalling the PATRULL safety gate and extension, PATRULL KLÄMMA safety gate and extension, and PATRULL FAST safety gate for safety precautions. The Swedish furniture chain store has urged parents to stop using it immediately and to bring it back to the stores for a full refund.
This is because IKEA has received customer complaints where the PATRULL series safety gates have opened unexpectedly, causing children to fall down the stairs. Although some of the incidents required medical attention, no injuries have been reported in Malaysia.
According to a 3rd party investigation, despite the product’s approved tests to applicable standards, the gate’s locking mechanism is not reliable and it poses a risk for small children.

“At IKEA, we have a zero tolerance regarding child safety and we cannot accept that there is a risk of injury while playing. Thus, as an immediate and precautionary action we recall all PATRULL safety gates,” said Maria Thörn, Acting Business Area Manager at Children’s IKEA.
She also added that IKEA wants to offer safe and healthy products and that children are the most important people in the world.
PATRULL safety gate, PATRULL KLÄMMA, and PATRULL FAST have been sold at IKEA Malaysia and can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund.
