The “Fast & Furious” movies have been going from strength to strength since the 1st movie came out 15 years ago. Not only has the franchise grown in terms of ambition and budget, but also in its star-studded cast.
While there won’t be any CGI resurrections of the late Paul Walker, we already know that Scott Eastwood and Kristofer Hivju will be making their debut as the new cast members. But perhaps the most notable new addition this time around is Charlize Theron, and now we’ve gotten our first look at her character, Cipher.

Although details about Cipher is still kept under wraps, here’s what we know about Theron’s character so far: Universal has previously mentioned that her character would be the most formidable villain ever for the franchise. We also know that she has a thing for machine guns and Metallica.
As seen in the image, Cipher is rocking her hair extensions tied up in a ponytail while wearing a black leather jacket over a low-cut Metallica T-shirt that reads, “Metal Up Your Ass”. If that’s not badass enough, she’s standing next to a stack of several large guns. Even from this picture alone, you can tell that she’ll have a bit more personality than the previous bad guys.

Theron previously told E! News that her character won’t doing much driving in the film. “I feel like that gang’s got the driving, like, down. Like, they have a really good thing going. I don’t know if I need to step in in that department. I might have to step in in a different department,” said the blonde beauty.
So does this mean Cipher is a master technical whizz, security conscious, or a rogue racer as James White suggested? There has been speculation that Cipher will end up being a Shaw sibling to Owen and Deckard Shaw (played by Luke Evans and Jason Statham respectively), but so far that’s just a rumour.

Vin Diesel also recently shared some insight into the actress’ character in the 8th instalment, saying, “Cipher, her character, is forcing Dom in to a place we have not seen. I first imagined her joining our saga back in 2012 when we were filming “Fast 6” in London, but life has a way of dictating when your vision is manifested and this chapter proves to be the perfect time.”
“Wait until you meet Cipher, of all her films you have never seen this character she has created… She has truly brought her A game to this saga and we are all grateful for it,” Diesel added. Judging from his description, things are looking pretty good right now for “Fast 8” with a great villain in Theron.
“Fast 8” is slated for release on 17th April 2017.
