Calling all Bat-kids!
IKEA will be recalling the LATTJO Bat Cape product for safety precautions. The Swedish furniture chain store has urged parents to stop children from playing with it immediately.
This is because there were 3 separate cases reported in Canada, Switzerland, and Austria where children received marks and scratches on their necks while wearing the cape, and it didn’t detach easily from the necks of the children.
Although there have been no reported injuries that required any medical treatment, IKEA has decided to take precautionary measures and is recalling the product “due to the risk of strangulation or injuries to the neck”.
“At IKEA, we have zero tolerance regarding child safety and we cannot accept that there is a risk of injury while playing,” said Business Area Manager at Children’s IKEA, Cindy Andersen.
She also added that new requirements will be put in place in IKEA’s future children’s products to ensure their safety.
LATTJO bat cape has been sold in IKEA Malaysia since November 2015, and can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund.
Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required. For more information, please contact IKEA Customer Contact Centre at 03-7952 7575. For more information, please visit IKEA’s official website.
