Who’s in the mood for another love story?
Sam Claflin (District 4’s Finnick Odair from “The Hunger Games”) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons in “Games of Thrones“) are playing star-crossed lovers who find love in the English countryside in the upcoming romance comedy, “Me Before You”.
Based on Jojo Moyes’ best-selling book, “Me Before You” tells the story of a small-town 26-year-old British woman named Louisa “Lou” Clark (Clarke) who is struggling to find the right job after failing as a beautician and chicken factory worker. She then lands a position as a caretaker to a quadriplegic named Will Traynor (Claflin).
Will is a wealthy 35-year-old paralysed man who becomes wheelchair bound following a tragic motorbike accident. Bitter about his disability, Will told his parents he’d hold out for 6 months before committing suicide. Now it is up to Lou to cheer up the former adrenaline junkie.
Things between the 2 start off rocky with Lou complaining to her companion in one scene: “He hates me. … Every time he looks at me, he looks at me like I’m stupid.” However, their dislike for one another eventually evolves into friendship and subsequently blossoms into sweet romance.
Having been accustomed to the GoT actress “chin-wagging with dragons” and “building a formidable army in her quest to rule Westeros”, it’s refreshing to see Clarke show a wider range of emotions to her acting talents that resonates well with the audience.
Clarke even revealed to USA Today that she’s far more like the goofy Louisa than any of the other fierce characters she has played before. “I’m really quite clumsy, say the wrong thing all the time and am awkward at the best of times. My friends and family have seen this other person every single day,” she said.
Meanwhile, director Thea Sharrock had nothing but praise for Claflin’s performance, saying, “Sam literally plays the part with no movement below the neck. All he had really was facial movements. That was a challenge.”
The upcoming romance will also feature an all-star cast including Mr. Bates, Clara, Tywin Lannister, and Neville Longbottom. Oops, we meant Downton Abbey’s Brendan Coyle, “Doctor Who” actress Jenna Coleman, GoT co-star Charles Dance, and “Harry Potter” actor Matthew Lewis.
