Universal has welcomed its newest cast member into the “Fifty Shades Of Grey” franchise. Kim Basinger will play Christian Grey’s ex-lover and business partner in E.L James’ “Fifty Shades Darker”, Variety reports.

The character of Elena Lincoln was briefly mentioned in “Fifty Shades Of Grey”, thus setting the stage for the second installation. It is her character who is responsible for introducing Christian Grey to the world of BDSM when he was only a teenager.

The 62-year-old actress won a best supporting Oscar for her role in “L.A. Confidential” starring opposite Russell Crowe. The smoking hot actress is no stranger to an erotica film though.

She previously starred in an erotic thriller “9 1/2 Weeks” where she played an art gallery assistant who gets thrown into a sexual whirlwind full of leather and bondage with a Wall Street trader, played by Mickey Rourk.”

Jamie Dornan and co-star Dakota Johnson will be reprising their roles respectively in the sequel films. Both films will be shot back-to-back with “Fifty Shades Darker” slated for a release on 10th February 2017 and “Fifty Shades Freed”, targeted to be released on 9th February 2018.

James Foley is directing the follow-up movies, taking over for Sam Taylor-Johnson after it was reported that the former director had experienced on-set tension with E.L James.
