Fans of Ed Sheeran, we hate to disappoint you, but you will no longer see any social media updates from the British singer-songwriter :(
According to E! Online, Sheeran announced that he’s quitting social media to go out and see the world through his own eyes. He conveyed the news in an Instagram post last Saturday after he was done with a concert held in Auckland, New Zealand.
Through his Instagram post, the 24-year-old singer said:
HELLO ALL. I AM TAKING A BREAK FROM MY PHONE, EMAILS AND ALL SOCIAL MEDIA FOR A WHILE. I’ve had such an amazing ride over the last 5 years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes, so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.
“To my family and friends, if you love me, you will understand me buggering off for a bit. To my fans, the 3rd album is on its way and is the best thing I have made thus far. See you all next autumn, and thank you for being amazing“, he added.

Sheeran’s announcement came after he told Australian radio station Nova 96.9FM that he’s planning to spend Boxing Day and the New Year’s holiday with his friends. He also revealed that he will get an ear surgery next year after accidentally ruptured his ear drum during a vacation with his friends this past summer.
The Grammy award-nominee said:
I have to have an operation in January on my ear because I stupidly jumped off a yacht really high up and smashed.
“I landed wrong and it burst my ear drum so I have to go and get a graft, which means I’m not allowed to fly for a while, so it’s kind of good. It means I have to stay at home“, he added.
Sheeran gained thousands of fans from across the globe after releasing “+”, his 2011 debut album which has been certified 6-times platinum in the UK. The album did not only earn him the Ivor Novello Award for “Best Song Musically and Lyrically”, but also the “Best British Male Solo Artist” award and the “British Breakthrough Act” award at the Brit Awards. His hit song titled “The A Team” was also nominated for “Song of the Year” at the 2013 Grammy Awards.
Though the news about Sheeran quitting social media came as a disappointment for his fans, fans can look forward to hearing new music from him as he promised that he will release a new album next year.
Are you sad that he’s decided to quit social media? We definitely are. Come back soon, Ed!
